Dear Coke Talk: On international shit talk →
dearcoketalk: Do you think the U.S. population on the whole is less intelligent than other countries? I’m never sure how to respond when I meet someone abroad who stereotypes Americans. Are they right? Don’t be ridiculous. The U.S. population is not less intelligent. It’s just louder, and the extra volume… Yep.

On Cooking & Being A Guest
Typically I consider myself a pretty good guest. I bring a dish or cake or whatever, really, but I make an effort to create something homemade. Not to be impressive, but moreso because it’s just standard (to bring something at least) and I like the act of cooking and baking. So part of this process is fulfilling my need to be creative and the other part is to make sure I’m acting in...

Copies? Turns out… my “job” might be to make copies of documents. Seriously?! Someone throw a PB&J at me now (on wheat with crunchy peanut butter and strawberry jam preferably). I need to sulk for however long it takes me to inhale requested sandwich.

The Omnivores 100
As you can see… I have some time on my hands (still). Will see how this plays out considering my daring side likes to play hide & seek at times (we won’t get into the frequency).  Bold  = tried  //  crossed-out = would never try The Omnivore’s Hundred: 1. Venison 2. Nettle tea 3. Huevos rancheros 4. Steak tartare 5. Crocodile 6. Black pudding 7. Cheese fondue 8. Carp...

Two Things
1. There are some things you come to believe you can count on: McDonalds being open all the time. NO! This is not so in Belgium. I’m momentarily appalled.  [and] 2. I’ve made the crossover from sugar addiction to sugar withdrawals and now I don’t need it. Whew. It was a close call, kids, but thanks to that swimsuit I posted a week or whatever ago, it was a necessary change.

Went to a cool bar tonight to meet up with friends and it was a really good time. :) Happy I unlocked myself from my room to socialize with things other than my computer!  And I successfully had 1 glass of wine and 1 glass only. Surprise!

movies
I’m proud of a new development I never saw coming:  Going to the movies by myself and feeling totally at ease and content about that. Before coming here, I had never done that and would even wince at the idea. I think cities bring out the strong and independent version of me - or maybe it’s the city’s strong and independent personality that is projecting itself onto me....

Someone is attempting to challenge me on my own taste in music…. 1. Why would “person” do this? It’s trivial.  2. OK, go ahead, but since you admitted you didn’t know any of the bands……. 3. Feel free to “be picky” because you obviously think I’m that scared to backpedal on my own preferences. Oh yeah. So scared. 4. I didn’t even...

– Barron’s GRE Study Guide, Vocabulary section (the lesson here, is not that we can use the word “assuage,” but that emotional eating never ends in a win, but a double loss)

Minor Successes Make Me Go (!)
I said a lot of things before coming to Europe. I also daydreamed of many possibilities, but once I got here the follow through was hit and miss. So far I’ve traveled a bit, but not to the places I necessarily thought I would. I’ve taken pictures, but not so much with the Minolta that I brought with me. The Minolta issue is only a result of the weather here that has only improved...

say what?
Does iTunes Genius really know what it’s doing? Is it smarter than I am or just a stubborn program that refuses to give me what I want? Too bad it can’t give me witty and sarcastic remarks when it cannot make a playlist I want… that would be entirely entertaining and altogether better than my brain getting caught up on actual human hang-ups. Please, let me interact with an...

Meow
Walking up the street with groceries in hand there was a stray in front skipping along in a very determined manner. As the distance between the two of us shortened, I could tell it knew I was following. Kinder than many, the stray pulled off to the side and let me pass while I labored with my heavy tote of food in hand. Turning to the left and swiping my card to get into the building, I passed...

I think sometimes we hit ruts and it’s not that we are meant for them or that it’s normal, but sometimes people find us in the midst of them so then it’s like, how do you show that you’re so much more than your low points?  Like the seasons, I/we can change, but sometimes seasons are unpredictable and do not follow any sort of logical trajectory. I just wish that when I...

starve, chomp, water, starve
Ran to the grocery store at lunchtime with Cat. Resisted the temptation of a box of mixed nuts, dried fruit and then gummies (ohhhh gummies *sigh*). Viciously grabbed 3 separate packs of fruity gum. Carnivorously chomping down on procured gum. Swigging water and praying I’ll be able to make it through the rest of the day without hitting a reception, committing to a workout aaaaand coming...
